Where did the year go? It’s time for Goboony Wrapped: The 2024 Edition! This year has been one for the books, filled with plenty of road trip inspiration, an ever-growing community and more people than ever hitting the road. We've hit some incredible milestones, and we can’t wait to share the highlights with you below!
Forging the way for new adventures, together
In 2023 we officially announced our merger with sister platform Yescapa! This year was all about bringing our partnership to the next level. Together we’re the number one motorhome-sharing platform in Europe, with over 33,000 motorhomes available for hire in 10 countries, now including Spain, Portugal, Switzerland and Austria!
100,000 of you are along for the ride
Our community grew like never before this year, with more and more people eager to experience the joys of a road trip. We reached a huge milestone - 100,000 followers on Instagram! Our Social Media channels reached over 25,000,000 and we saw more and more interest in some of our favourite road trip destinations - Scotland and Italy! Everyone wants to know when the best time is to head to the NC500 (Spoiler, answers here) and we’ve even seen more interest in sun-filled destinations like Spain and Portugal. Every heart, every comment and every share has motivated us to share even more inspiring content.
Who hit the road this year?
Families and couples love taking a road trip. And who can blame them? The kids are entertained, and if you’re a couple looking for some solitude, a wild camping spot all to yourselves is the jackpot. We saw more friends and solo travellers taking trips this year too! Solo travel is continually on the rise and we were happy to see a peak in interest in our mirco-campervans. Perfect for me, myself and I.
Meet our owners who make it all possible
Goboony wouldn’t be what it is without the incredible owners who hire out on our platform. Our longest-standing owner has been with us for eight whole years - that’s from the start! We also love to see how motorhome sharing is for everyone, our most mature owner is 89 years old, and our youngest is 18.
Our most-loved motorhomes
If we say so ourselves, we have some incredibly unique motorhomes on our platform. From quirky conversions to luxury home-on-wheels, when we say there’s something for everyone, we mean it! We’ve seen more eco-friendly vehicles join the platform, such as Flo the climate-friendly campervan. No one expected to see a Swiss Chalet cruising down the road, but this unique conversion is available to book on our platform.
Let’s take a look at our four most booked vehicles in 2024:
VW Belter – 4 berth Volkswagen Campervan from 2021 - Glasgow
Jeffy – 6 berth Swift 686 - Bristol
Wendy - The T5 VW Campervan with pop top - near Reading/London
Escapes Scotland Luxury Camper – 4-Person Luxury VW Campervan - Glasgow
Where else did the road take us?
We explored far and wide, yet 93% of travellers stayed within the UK. This means that although lots of our motorhomes are taken abroad as well, the staycation was still a favourite. And understandably so, with so much beauty on our doorstep just waiting to be explored. Within the UK, Scotland was by far the most popular destination, followed closely by Wales. We also saw more interest in France and Spain, as road-trippers are looking for winter sun.
Goonie Trip of the Year
At Goboony, we don’t just advocate an adventurous, outdoorsy lifestyle, we go out and live that life ourselves. Most often in a campervan! Many of us own campervans and love sharing our vehicles with travellers on the platform. And team members that don’t, simply hire one themselves. The same goes for our content marketer Maayke, who picked up a van in the Scottish Highlands this year to embark on the beloved North Coast 500.
“I simply had to know what all the fuss was about. As a content marketer for Goboony, I’m constantly on the road to scope out exciting itineraries and beautiful camping spots for the blog. The NC 500 is a very popular route and can get very crowded, so I wanted to experience what it was like to go on this road trip at a less popular time of the year. This way, I can pass on the knowledge to those wishing to experience the same."
Turns out, if you’re all about beating the crowds (and the midges) and aren’t afraid of a little chill, early spring is a fantastic time to head up to The Highlands in a campervan — make sure it has heating! So if you’re looking to kick off next year’s road trip season with a trip of a lifetime, check out Maayke’s 7-day itinerary for the NC 500, or head over to our Instagram for stunning campervan content of The Scottish Highlands.
