Traveling in the iconic VW van, but 100% electric. This ID Buzz is just under 5 meters long and has been designed really smartly by the guys at Outbase in the Netherlands. As a result, you have plenty of room for 2 adults or for 2 adults and up to 2 small children (3 adults is also possible), while still being easy to maneuver, even in the city.
A TOUR:
One of our criteria was: we don't want to feel like we are camping in a car. This camper van is cozily furnished with eco-friendly, warm materials.
The van feels surprisingly spacious thanks to the pop-up roof, which also houses a 110 cm bed, and the front seats that can be rotated.
You can easily transform the rear seat into a 135 cm fold-out bed thanks to the smart mattress, which you roll up during the day, sheets and all.
Thanks to the short length, you can easily park in a standard parking space.
What else is there?
• A solar panel on the roof allowing you to easily wild camp for one or more nights.
• All the power outlets and USB ports you need.
• A table that can be set up indoors and outdoors and extra chairs for outside.
• Lots of drawers and compartments to store stuff (see photos)
• A kitchenette with cold water, 2 electric induction hobs, and a refrigerator (drawer, see photo)
• An optional dry toilet (please let us know if you would like to use this).
AND WHAT ABOUT THE DRIVING RANGE?
Of all the electric buses currently on the market, the ID Buzz is one of the best performing. The official range is 450 km, but you can easily cover 300 km. If you make a pit stop every two hours—which a sensible driver does anyway—you can quite easily cover 800 to 1,000 km per day. At a fast charger, you are fully charged in the time it takes to grab a coffee and make a trip to the restroom.
Even better: try not to drive south in one go, but let the journey begin as soon as you drive out of our street and stop here and there along the way. You can plug an electric bus into a charging station when you visit a city or spend a day at the beach.
With an electric car, the rule is: the lighter, the further. Our fully equipped van can legally carry an additional 410 kilos, including passengers. To provide you with more comfort, we suggest not bringing suitcases and bags into the car, but unpacking them and making use of the many cupboards. Top tip: pack everything in advance using handy packing cubes. We will keep an eye on your empty suitcases.
HOW DO YOU PICK UP THE BUS?
You can easily park your car in our neighborhood while you go camping. Our bus is easily accessible by tram, and if necessary and possible, we will pick you up at the station.
