Original and very well maintained Volkswagen Westfalia California camper from 1996 (T4 2.4D). In the first years of its life, this camper drove around Germany and in 2014 it was imported into the Netherlands by Scharphof Campers from Nijverdal. In total we are only the third owner of this motorhome. We have now owned it for more than two years and in that time we have driven more than 15,000 km without any problems. We have the camper serviced annually and has recently had all the necessary maintenance, so it can be used again in the coming years.
In the summer of 2023 we ourselves went to Italy for the first time with the camper; we crossed the Alps without any problems (with the necessary luggage, 2 adults and 2 children, 4 bicycles and a trailer). We have really enjoyed the freedom and convenience of traveling with a motorhome and we would like to pass on that experience.
The bus is on the inside as it is on the outside, namely with only light signs of wear, which is fairly unique for the age of the camper. We are therefore very careful with it ourselves and expect that the tenant also treats the motorhome sparingly. Of course it remains a user object, but I think it is clear what we mean :-).
The camper has 4 sleeping places, but experience shows that it is quite tight with 4 adults if you also want to sleep in the bus. Actually, we would recommend sleeping on the bus with a maximum of 3 adults (2 downstairs, 1 upstairs), or with 2 adults and 2 children. We have one mattress topper available that can be used both downstairs and upstairs.
The camper is equipped with the most important camping accessories, such as plates, cutlery, cups and pans. Camping chairs and a camping table can also be taken along if desired. The camper does not have a parking heater, but it does have an electric (separate) heater, which is perfectly suited to pleasantly heat the small space on colder or damp days. The camper can also be completely darkened with the original curtains.
On the outside, the camper has an awning, ideal for creating shade or to place things dry outside when it rains. In addition, the camper has a bicycle rack for 4 bicycles. However, it can only be used for 2 'normal' bicycles or for 4 relatively light bicycles such as MTBs or racing bicycles. If electric bicycles are taken along, please use a bicycle rack on the towbar.
Optionally and in consultation it is possible to rent a bicycle rack or trailer (see photo). Target price for the bicycle rack of 2 bicycles €30 per week or €20 per midweek/weekend. Target price for the trailer €75 per week or €50 per midweek/weekend. We find the trailer particularly ideal for keeping the luggage outside the camper as much as possible, so that it is easy to make the bed regularly without moving all the luggage.
