Meet Orla – Your Cosy Off-grid Retreat on Wheels
Orla is a lovingly converted Mercedes Sprinter with bags of character, warmth, and little details that make van life feel easy and enjoyable. She’s fully off-grid, toasty in winter months, beautifully lined with wood, and centred around a handcrafted river table. There’s Wi-Fi onboard if you need to work on the move, plus touches you won’t find in standard hire vans — hammocks, hot water and a BBQ for outdoor cooking. The van has tinted windows throughout and even with the lights on inside you cannot see in the van so it’s very private but light at the same time.
Perfect for a couple, a solo adventure, or a small family wanting something more personal and soulful than a commercial camper. Pickup or drop off can be arranged from East Grinstead station (50 mins from London Victoria). The van is based at Forest Row and you are welcome to leave your car on our drive while you go on your trip.
*Space to Stretch Out
Orla sleeps 3 very comfortably on a huge bed — super king-sized at its longest (176cm x 200cm). You can sleep lengthways or sideways depending on what suits. The setup easily fits 2 adults and 1 child, or 1 adult and 2 children. One side of the bed is extra long for a taller sleeper, while the other two sections are suited to average height. Small children could even make it work for 4.
There are 3 seatbelts in the van, so she’s set up for 3 travelling passengers.
*Inside the Van
The swivel passenger seat opens up the space, and the handcrafted river table is great for meals, games, or working with a view. 2 different style hammocks hang from the ceiling for lounging or reading, and there are strong hooks if you’re travelling with a baby cot. Evenings are magical with fairy lights, cosy throws, and soft rugs — a warm, relaxed atmosphere throughout.
*Kitchen & Heating
The kitchen is fully set up with a gas oven, grill, two hobs, sink, and a great fridge-freezer that works even off-grid. Orla runs on LPG or electric for heating or hot water, with solar panels and 2 lithium batteries also, so you’re free to park up anywhere. She is very capable of keeping you warm in cold winter months. Outside you can cook on BBQ (available on request), and there are chairs (available on request) and picnic blankets ready to use.
*A Few Extras Included
Breakfast teas, ground coffee with a cafetière, local jam or honey when available, salt, pepper, oil and herbs. You’ll also find eco washing-up liquid, cloths, sponges, a few games (chess, cards, jigsaws), and a very large bottle of filtered drinking water. Duvets and pillows plus covers and linen included.
