It was clear on collection of the van that the owner knew nothing about the van at all. We were running late on the day of collection, so the handover was very brief. The owner said ‘you probably know more about this than me’. He apologised for a towel around the toilet, stating “The previous users hadn’t emptied the toilet and it had leaked”. There was 1/4 tank of fuel as we departed. We had planned and paid for a 3 day trip with friends, however we returned a day early due to issues with the van. The toilet didn’t have any chemicals added or available, it was very hot and the toilet began to smell quickly, so it needed emptying often. We were not plugged to a site, but many van functions failed to work. The lights internally worked, but the plug sockets didn’t. We were busy out and about and had battery packs so used those, didn’t worry too much at that stage. We had bought food from the supermarket after collection and put it into the fridge. We put it in cold , not realising the fridge and freezer didn’t work. We used milk for coffee on the first morning of the trip, but hadn’t noticed the fridge was internally off. The lights on the front were on. It was on day 2 when we went to cook breakfast we realised all the food was warm and milk curdled. We spent that morning trying to establish what the issue was. We Messaged the owner just after midday on day 2. We got a reply 4 hours later apologising and said they would look into it. After 6 hours of no obvious solution, our battery packs drained, food ruined and a stinking toilet we decided to return the van early. Unfortunately all of the above issues were raised as a dispute with Goboony, after getting nowhere with the owner (who blamed us for not alerting him earlier and started to become aggressive in his messaging). Goboony, despite being sent ALL-of the evidence of the messages from the owner, who repeatedly changed the narrative to fit an agenda, awarded us £13 in compensation, which I was advised and expected to share my bank details directly with the owner to pay me. I chose not to give my bank details to the owner, who had sold me a van that failed to work as advertised and had repeatedly lied. He later accused me of not cleaning the van and suggested I didn’t know how to use a bathroom properly. Very very disappointing hire, I’ve hired vans before, this was not what I had expected or paid for (over £700), the owners behaviour and responses towards me were something else. Buyer beware. Great van. Comfortable, clean and incredible fuel efficient. Plenty of storage and Nick was welcoming and gave great explanations of what I needed to know. He responded swiftly to all communications and I would certainly want to rent it again. August 2025
